Hey, all. Sorry I've been out of touch the past few days. Been a little busy. Did I miss anything? ;0) Kidding, I kid. Well, by now many of you attending our amazing QAF convention in Cologne in a couple of weeks have heard that Gale Harold has had to cancel his appearance there as well as at the Benefit for the Blank Theatre. Gale has been cast in a wonderful film and ...his schedule won't allow him to attend. He is just as disappointed as we all are and a letter he wrote apologizing and explaining will be posted soon on the convention website. But this is a "Queer as Folk" convention and not a Gale Harold convention so while I know his absence will upset many I hope the realization that 8 of the main 9 cast members WILL be there will be cause enough to celebrate and enjoy this amazing and unique event. I'm really sad not to get to share this experience with one of my dearest friends but I know the joy I am going to feel at getting to reunite with so many other friends and to meet so many new ones will more than make up for my sorrow.
We are very sorry to have to inform you that GALE HAROLD, due to work commitments, won't be able to attend the Rise'n Shine Convention in Cologne.
Despite all rumours we like to let you know that SHARON GLESS definitely will be present in Cologne.
The first thing I'd like to say is that I truly regret not being a part of Rise'n Shine 2012. I am very proud of the American adaptation of Queer as Folk that I had the good grace to be a part of. I have to thank Dan Lipman and Ron Cowen for giving me that chance.

I'd love to be there to celebrate with you. Obviously QAF changed all of our lives. And that fact is more than just the echo of a well-worn phrase. In the years since the series completed, one thing has become very clear to me; there were many lifelong transformations that I, and I think my cast-mates went through while living through our characters.
I had been greatly looking forward to attending the convention, reuniting with all my old cast-mates and meeting all of you. A wonderful work opportunity has only recently come my way and unfortunately the scheduling of that project does not allow me the time to come to Cologne and join you. This disappoints me just as much as I fear it will disappoint many of you. I hope you will all understand and forgive my absence.
Whatever I gave to others through QAF, I received vastly more in return. I can remember when we started to hear the stories from those first watching the show. I will never forget being told by some of my brothers and sisters in the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender community that they were hearing their own voices and seeing themselves, some for the first time, on screen. Not everyone in the community saw, or even liked the work we did. But there were many who found hope and solidarity in the stories we tried to tell. I've heard that directly from many of those who did. That is undoubtedly what I treasure most. The best we can do as story tellers is tell the truth and find someone to listen to us and respond; however it affects them and however we get there. We told the truth.
I had looked forward to being in Cologne with all of you and hearing some new stories.
I will deeply miss hearing them.
It would have been great after the years that have passed to be with the boys and girls from Pittsburgh together in a new city far,far away…

Brian Kinney's famous white silk scarf which plays an important part in the episodes around Brian’s 30th birthday and Justin’s prom is to be auctioned at the Rise ‘n Shine convention in Cologne. The auction is open not only to the convention goers but to anyone who wants to bid for the scarf. It’s one of the six original scarves used in the show. This one is from the notable prom scene of Justin and Brian. Other props like the poster that Justin paints in episode 3.03 and Lindsay’s dress in episode 2.01 will be available for auction as well.

Interview with Scott Lowell about the "Queer as Folk" convention Rise'n Shine 2012 2012 QAF大会Rise'n Shine

Scott Lowell plays the role of Ted Schmidt on "Queer as Folk" and is very involved with making the convention in Germany happen. We asked him some questions about how the project began.
1. In June 2012 we will celebrate the "greatest reunification in Germany" which is the "Queer as Folk" convention Rise'n Shine with fans from around the globe and all nine lead actors from the show. When and how were you approached with this project?
I believe Elke first asked me back in the Spring very hypothetically what it would take to get some sort of QAF cast gathering in Cologne. I thought she was maybe just an overexcited fan with a funny dream but I spoke to my other castmates and we came up with some facts and figures of what it would take to get all nine of us over to Cologne that I just assumed would scare her away. But it didn't and now it looks like it is actually going to happen and we are all so thrilled. It will be the first time all nine of us will be appearing at a public event together since we stopped filming the show back in 2005.
2. Making this event possible is largely thanks to you, Scott, for organizing the negotiations for yourself and your co-stars, which really is unique. Is this only possible when a cast still is really close and/or for a show that was so groundbreaking as "Queer as Folk"?
Yes, I think this is an incredibly unique combination of a small but rabid fan base for a show that really did change people's lives and an incredibly close cast that really is more family than friends. They all trust my opinion and we all are so appreciative of our European fan base that my suggestion that we come to Germany to meet them has been met with nothing but enthusiasm. Especially at the prospect of all being together again.
3. This is the first time since the show was on the air that all nine members of the main cast will be together on stage or even in public at all. Is this merely a question of work schedules or did some time have to pass to want to get back together and enjoy looking back?
Honestly we just haven't been asked. Most of us get together still privately fairly regularly but no one before Elke has thought to put together an event where we can all appear together. It's really quite exciting.
4. At the fantasy convention RingCon in Germany one of the convention regulars advised the new guests to read up on their own shows and characters because the fans know and ask about every detail. Are you looking forward to dive back in and discuss your character?
You know, I think we a may need to refresh our memories on specifics of episodes as it's been 6 years now since we last filmed the show and we all have done a number of other projects since. But I am sure, like riding a bicycle, it will all come back pretty quickly.
5. Have you been to Germany before? Is there something in particular you look forward to or expect from Cologne as host of this convention? Have you ever had a guided city walk on the program of a convention?
I have never been to Germany before and am really looking forward to it. Peter Paige, Robert Gant and I almost came to an event in Berlin a few years ago but it fell apart at the last minute and I was greatly disappointed. I love history and the history of places so I really look forward to seeing all the architecture and finding out more about Cologne.
6. Can you tell us a little bit about your recent projects?
I've been mostly splitting my time between guest roles on other television series here in the States ("Bones", "Criminal Minds", "Leverage", "CSI: NY", "Navy CIS", etc.) and doing live theatre which I love.

Gale Harold is certainly not only Brian Kinney, he's also Charles Meade ("The Secret Circle"), Wyatt Earp ("Deadwood") and Kyle Riven ("Wake"), but Brian Kinney was such a groundbreaking role for the actor who was relatively new in the business. Not only could he accrue an army of devoted fans, he also breathed life into a character that is unique until today.

1. All nine of you trusted Scott in setting the negotiations for the "Queer as Folk" convention in Germany in motion. Is this only possible when a cast still is really close and/or for a show that was so groundbreaking as "Queer as Folk"?
Scott is possibly one of the most honest people I've ever known. I would trust him with anything.

I know that for me the time that has passed has given me the distance to look back clearly. I was too close and needed some perspective.

Absolutely.

4. How does it feel to know that 6 years after the show there are so many people dying to see all you guys together again?
It's both very humbling and flattering.

5. Have you been to Germany before? Is there something in particular you look forward to?
I've been to Berlin, Munich and Frankfurt. I've always wanted to see the Rhine at night, and I'm excited to see the Cologne Cathedral.
